Around Melbourne - The State of Victoria

Hugging the tip of the Australian east coast, Victoria is Australia's second-smallest state, covering 227,600 square kilometres – roughly the size of the British Isles.

Packed into such a compact area is a wealth of diverse regional areas and attractions, from sweeping coastline and pristine beaches to national parks and forests teeming with wildlife to wineries, lakes and mountains offering skiing, climbing and hiking. Best of all, many of Victoria's unique and varied landscapes are easily accessible as day trips from Melbourne.

The 12 Apostles is one of Victoria's most iconic sights.

Created by constant erosion of the limestone cliffs of the mainland beginning 10-20 million years ago, these magnificent rock stacks rise up majestically from the Southern Ocean on Victoria's dramatic coastline. View the 12 Apostles at sunrise and sunset as they change colour from dark and foreboding in shadow to brilliant sandy yellow under a full sun.

The 12 Apostles are located 275 kilometres west of Melbourne, approximately a four-hour drive along the Great Ocean Road.

Sydney and New South Wales

Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia. It is on Australia's south-east coast, on the Tasman Sea. In June 2010 the greater metropolitan area had an approximate population of 4.6 million people.

Sydney is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities on earth. Its sparkling harbour, dazzling beaches and sunny, Mediterranean climate are matched by an array of world-class museums and art galleries, a 24-hour nightlife, relaxed lifestyle and rich architectural heritage.
